A toast of best wishes to the narrow escape of all that is not meant for me. May they find their way to the person whose life they won’t riddle with complications. Chin chin to the moments when it sparkled in my presence before revealing its sharp edges. And here’s to what is waiting for me around the corner, I anticipate you with bated breath.  … Continue reading Tail end of bad tidings

You’ve turned me one note. Suddenly, I only have sad stories to tell. Quiet, wounded cries into the night are all that I utter. I whimper like an offended mongrel. But a skipping record, and I’m the one who keeps returning the needle.  I want to believe what you say. I want to find some parity between your words and your stolen kisses. But your … Continue reading Who are you anyway, and anyway, who am i

I am no one’s keeper and no one is mine. You shall struggle to find a cage that will keep me yet, and I offer none of my own. I have neither the time nor the room to find space for you among the worries and the aspirations that I am endeavoring towards. I will not slow to the pace that your able body concedes. … Continue reading The uncaged bird

Never confuse someone’s taking advantage as space for you to make an effort. Draw a line in the sand and don’t let anyone lead you over it. You’d be surprised how quickly having nothing to lose turns into being swindled out of everything you have. Apathy on someone else’s part is not your call to action. Sometimes you’ve done all you can. Spinning tires in … Continue reading Poisonous things grow in your silence

Maybe found money isn’t ours to keep. It just keeps dropping at the feet of people who need to know that there are still good things on the path ahead. The heads up penny on the sidewalk, the folded up dollar bill on the hiking trail. I know not where it goes when it inevitably escapes me too but I can know with all certainty … Continue reading Everything’s coming up daisies

The best things in life take an entire evening to decant. Unfolding themselves as the hours pass, revealing their sumptuous notes as you earn their trust. Some take whole years, fermenting in dark places, laying in wait for the perfect chemical reaction to bring them to their peak. Others require brute force to reach. Tapping through the sturdy trunks of great trees for the promise … Continue reading Nobody’s fool

They tell you to do one thing that scares you everyday. What they don’t tell you is to be afraid. Tremble at the feet of this great thing you’ve laid a gauntlet in front of. It’s okay to stand here, while the sun is still risen, and not know how you are to face it when tomorrow comes. Do it afraid, and let it scare … Continue reading Living in willing fear

My appetite for life, so large I often take too big a bite. The sickly sweetness of the things I crave in abundance sticking to the roof of my mouth. It’s always once I’m getting exactly what I wanted that I realize that a little less would have sufficed. Our cravings too often outweighing our stomachs for it, we take what we can lest it … Continue reading What big eyes you have

I hope I run circles around your mind like you do mine. I hope in the busy hours of your day, the fabric of your thoughts is being worn down by my slow and steady orbit. I hope you wonder what I’m doing, like I do you. I hope you muse longingly about our next visit like a sickly sweet waking dream.  I know that … Continue reading Chasing my tail

It’s a doomed journey, the passage from the head to the heart. Having grown so used to the order and stability of their logic based ecosystem, the dutiful soldiers of my good sense are thrust upon the wild and unpredictable jungles of my heart’s will. Tumultuous storms that roll in and out, lush greenery that bars all passage, carnal creatures that feed from the rivers … Continue reading Yellow brick road
